Curated Job Opportunities
This week: Insider advice on a new job program, an apprenticeship program spotlight and a list of remote internships. Enjoy.
1. JP Morgan Full Time Software Program
Two days ago a Vice President from JP Morgan Chase reached out to tell me about a brand new program for emerging talent software engineers in North America.
To the aspiring developers among you, this just opened yesterday:
You can check out the job program here.
I asked him for an inside scoop. Something special I could pass to you. Here it is:
Inside Scoop: The VP shared 2 things you can do to get ahead:
Practice HackerRank code questions in your preferred OOP language to prepare.
Be ready to explain why this program is right for you. Check my LinkedIn posts if you need motivation to craft your story and help explaining your "why."
2. LinkedIn’s REACH Apprenticeship Program
I want you to know this exists, in case you didn't.
This is the BEST backdoor into The Valley. It's how I broke into tech.
Think internship, on steroids. Intended for non-traditional backgrounds, but I know some fresh out of college that have secured spots.
We're all "non-traditional" in our own way.

Show Spotlight: Public Relations to Data Science
You might've already listened to Joy Opsvig's transformation from public relations to data science at LinkedIn. If not, you can find her episode here:
Here's an inside scoop from our conversation:
In her old job, Joy pictured her future roles and realized they didn't excite her.
Lesson: It's important to zoom out and make sure you're on a path you want. She took a year to build up a financial buffer before making a clean break.
Lesson: Big shifts are easier with a little runway. She had 20 interviews before LinkedIn. Her biggest takeaway: figuring out if the interviewer enjoyed their job.
Lesson: Interviews are 2-way streets. When its your turn, ask a question that reveals their happiness and engagement.

Career Advice - Too Controversial for LinkedIn
I’ve grown my LinkedIn following 600% the past 6 weeks. This take was too controversial to share there. Enjoy.
Last week my LinkedIn account was shadow banned.
It was swift. It was subtle. And it was my fault.
It was also eye opening. I had 3 big realizations:
We interact at the pleasure of a system. That’s not a bad thing, but it’s still a thing.
I never took for granted our interactions. I did take for granted our ability to have them.
We can be silenced without ever knowing. On any platform.
I could see other posts, and seemingly interact.
But not really.
I believe in rules, and playing by them.
LinkedIn fixed my account, and things are back to normal.
But that "shadow" bit rubbed me the wrong way.
I love LinkedIn. The company, and the platform.
You should be on it, engaging and building your brand. I'll share tips and show you how.
And I'll continue writing there. But to continue my mission of empowering people like you, I realized I had to diversify.
This newsletter was launched 1 week later.
Takeaway: Leverage platforms to build your brand, but consider de-platforming users at the right time. Remember, YOU are the prize.
Resource of the Week: How to Win Friends and Influence People
I've gifted this book more than a dozen times. I keep a copy on my desk, and re-read it every year.
Note: If you make a purchase, a portion of the sale helps support the letter, at no additional cost to you.
This single book taught me more about business, relationships and human psychology than everything I learned in college, combined. You can find it here.
Listen to it. Read it. Live it.
You'll thank me later.
Have a Great Weekend
That's it for this week. I hope you enjoyed this preview of what you can expect from me.
If not, I don't take it personally. More bandwidth for those that did. There's an unsubscribe button below.
See you next week, where we'll discuss:
The core pieces of a dynamite LinkedIn Profile, and how to bring recruiters direct to your InMail.
Ways we can connect:
- Follow me on LinkedIn
- Follow the Exponential Growth Podcast
Thank you so much for putting this together and expending all this effort on our behalf. I'm currently in process of building up some runway (of a sort) of my own. It will probably be October before I make any additional moves towards my transition but until then I will be following your advice and getting prepared in all the ways I can.
Thank you!
